I bought the Sun Oven for Off-The-Grid Living! I got my sun oven a little over a week ago and I just love it! So far I have made a berry cobbler, brownies, beef stew, “boiled” eggs and tea. The cobbler was my first attempt at cooking and it turned out great! It browned around the edges, which surprised me, but I guess it browned because of the sugar in the recipe. The brownies turned out equally as good, which is great because I usually burn brownies in a regular oven! :) On the day i cooked the beef stew, clouds started getting in the way after about 3 hours of cooking. The stew was pretty much done, but I opted to finish it off on the regular stove. The “boiled” eggs were an experiment that was so cool! I put some eggs (still in their paper carton) in the oven for 1-1/2 hours and amazingly the eggs were “boiled” to perfection! The only drawback to cooking the eggs is that you really aren’t sure if the eggs are truly done or not. After an hour I tried the “spin test” on an egg and it passed, so I broke it open but it wasn’t totally hard boiled. I left the other eggs in for another half hour and that’s when they were perfectly done! Then I put some water in one of the granite ware pans with some tea bags and left it in the oven for about an hour. This was the best “sun” tea I have ever had! I am so glad I have my sun oven now. My husband and I live off-the-grid and I was looking for an alternative way to cook food in the summer so I wouldn’t heat up the house, and this Sun Oven fits the bill perfectly! We had to adjust the screws that hold down the glass door because they were way too tight, and I wish the strap that holds the whole thing together for transport was a bit tighter (I jingle when I walk with it), but other than that, the Sun Oven is better than I had hoped for!
