The Sun Oven’s gentle heat is ideal for this easy winter dessert. Baked apples are good warm or at room temperature and cook relatively quickly in the Sun Oven. Get a batch in first thing and you’ll still have time to make a solar cooked dinner.
Sun Oven Baked Apples
Ingredients
4 large baking apples
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/3 cup rasins, chopped
1/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
2 teaspoons butter
1/4 cup water
Preparation
Set Sun Oven out to preheat.
Core the apples and place them in a glass baking dish. Combine the sugar, raisins, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a small bowl. Fill the center of each apple with the sugar mixture. Dot each apple with 1/2 teaspoon butter. Pour water into the baking dish. Cover the dish with tin foil then cover the foil with a dark tea towel. Bake apples in the Sun Oven until tender, 45 minutes to 1 hour. Serve warm or at room temperature.
