Rice is so much better baked than prepared stovetop that I don’t get why the package instructions don’t mention it. This basic method, with just four ingredients, makes perfect, fluffy rice every time.

Solar Baked White Rice


1 1/2 cups basmati rice

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces

3 cups boiling water


Set Sun Oven out to preheat.

In a large pot, combine the rice and salt. Dot with the butter. Add the boiling water and give it a good stir. Cover and transfer to the Sun Oven. Cook until the water has been absorbed, 30 to 35 minutes. Fluff with a fork and serve.
