On those days when you have no idea what you’re going to make for dinner and don’t really feel like cooking, setting up the Global Sun Oven is still a good idea.

Even if you wind up going out to eat or having ice-cream for dinner, it doesn’t cost you anything. And, with minimum effort, you can probably rustle up something from your pantry or freezer.

Recently, on a day just like that, I dug around in my freezer and came up with a simple meal of chicken sausage, sauerkraut, and baked potatoes. Not only was it a cinch to put together, I only had to dirty one pot. Then, to make it sound like I’d actually done some work, I used “braised” in the recipe’s title.

Solar Braised Chicken Sausage

1 cup sauerkraut, drained and rinsed

1/4 cup dry white wine (or beer)

1 teaspoon caraway seeds

2 chicken sausages

Set Global Sun Oven out to preheat.

Combine sauerkraut, wine, and caraway seeds in a dark, light-weight pot. Place sausages on top of sauerkraut mixture. Cover and cook in GSO until sausages are heated through; about 45 minutes.
